Used and new Gaggia coffee machines
Origin & History
Achille Gaggia developed a steamless method in Milan and filed a first patent in 1938. In 1947 came a patent for the piston lever, which could produce pressures of 8 to 10 bar in a machine. The company is considered founded in 1947 or 1948.
Positioning
Gaggia is one of the oldest brands in espresso and stands for affordable portafilter machines and fully automatics for the home.
Character & profile
The lever piston gave rise to crema, which shapes today's espresso. Gaggia machines stand for classic, uncomplicated technology.
What to check
Check the gaskets, brew group and portafilter and ask about descaling. With older machines, take a look at the condition of the boiler and the pump. More in the guide to buying coffee machines.
Known series
Well known are Classic, Anima, Cadorna and Brera, among others.
